Meetings
We are a small group which meets weekly on Thursday evenings, and on occasional Saturday mornings, at the Ockment Community Centre in Okehampton, Devon (for dates see below).
Thursday evening meetings are informal and consist of two 25 minute periods of silent meditation, separated by walking meditation. This is followed by a short recorded talk or reading. The evening ends with tea and a chat.
Saturday morning meetings follow a traditional Soto Zen form and consist of two 25 minute periods of silent meditation, separated by walking meditation. We follow this with a short service in which we chant a Buddhist text before ending with tea and biscuits.
We welcome anyone who would like to learn and practise zen meditation (Japanese: zazen). Beginners are welcome and basic instruction will be given.
The group is affiliated to the White Plum Zen Asangha within the Soto Zen School. The White Plum lineage was founded by the late Taizan Maezumi Roshi who established the Zen Center of Los Angeles in 1967.
